WING TSUN KUNG FU is an old Chinese martial art, which originated in southern China around 360 years ago during the Ching dynasty (1644-1911). At that time China was constantly at war with the Manchurian invaders.
Under such pressure the Chinese developed a completely new method of fighting, which was to give them superiority over the attackers. This is how WING TSUN KUNG FU came into being: a flexible, fast, aggressive martial art with which the Chinese were even able to defeat physically superior opponents.
WING TSUN KUNG FU enables the fighter to spontaneously adapt to the attacker’s movements using a cleverly devised system of trained visual and sense reflexes. This means that this system removes any susceptibility to feints and other distractions.
Historical research has shown that WING TSUN KUNG FU was developed by masters of various different fighting styles. This was in the southern Chinese border region between Fatshan and Yunnan after the overthrow of the Ming dynasty. The system was then secretly developed further in Kwangtung from where it came via Kwangsi to Fatshan, where WING TSUN KUNG FU found numerous followers of this famous « secret style ».
This ingenious martial arts system first reached Europe at the end of the 1970’s. WING TSUN KUNG FU is unique as a martial art because it combines both the elements of so-called ‘external’ fighting styles (which focus on powerful, fast and explosive movements) and the elements of “internal” fighting styles (which focus on the internal force ‘Qi’, flowing movements and mental concentration).
In WING TSUN KUNG FU, physical strength is not the decisive factor, as the biomechanics of the body are used to achieve maximum effect with minimum effort. All fighting techniques are executed precisely so that they are aimed at the opponent’s sensitive points in order to defeat the opponent as quickly as possible in a fight. Through special exercises such as Chi Sau training, practitioners learn to sense their opponent’s movements and use their opponent’s strength to direct it against themselves at lightning speed. The balance between structured power and adaptive, fluid movements enables dynamic adaptation to the opponent’s attacks. WING TSUN KUNG FU is a martial arts system. All movements (e.g. also in the forms) and techniques are based on coherent and methodically linked fundamental principles. However, it is not just about being able to defend yourself, but also about understanding your body better, controlling aggression or your own insecurity and sharpening your ability to perceive conflict situations.
WING TSUN KUNG FU is equally accessible to men and women, as it is practised without regard to certain physical criteria such as strength or agility. Age doesn’t matter either. The only essential condition is motivation. It is precisely this indispensable personal resource that will open the door to the acquisition of new knowledge and the amplification of established personal abilities.
