DAAN CHI

TACTILE REFLEXES RELATINS TO DEFENCE AND ATTACK TECHNIQUES

Chi Sau training (Chi Sau means « sticky hands ») deals with the techniques taught in the various forms of the Wing Tsun Kung Fu system. It helps with work on the arms’ tactile attack and defence reflexes and is part of the programme taught to advanced students. Owing to its highly technical nature, this kind of exercise is unique and specific to Wing Tsun Kung Fu, in contrast, therefore, with the other martial arts/combat sports.

DAAN CHI – CHI SAU WITH A SINGLE ARM

The pupil first begins training on a certain number of reflexes before being capable of practising Chi Sau (using both arms simultaneously). These exercises are called Daan Chi (translates as « single sticky hands »). The pupil starts by working on the techniques with only one arm. This is a succession of predefined movements and cycles of « basic techniques » borrowed from Siu Nim Tau that help to make the appropriate reflexes automatic.
